Eric Christopher Speck, 38, of Dakota City died Monday, June 27, 2016, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Dakota City Fire Hall. Interment will be in Dakota City Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present at 6 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Dakota City Fire Hall. Eric was born on Sept. 9, 1977, in Sioux City, to Richard and Nancy (Gideon) Speck. He grew up in Dakota City and graduated from South Sioux City High School in 1996.
He married Joanie Powell on March 3, 2001, at the Dakota City Fire Hall. Eric attended North East Community College and earned his EMT and continued to work toward his paramedic license there as well. He was employed with the Omaha Tribal Rescue in Macy, Neb., and volunteered with the Dakota City Fire Department for 15 years.
He was a past member of the Wisner, Neb., volunteer fire department and former vice president of the Nebraska Mutual Aid Association.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Joanie; three children, Skyler, Devin and Johnathan; his parents, Richard and Nancy Speck of Dakota City; brother, Matt and Chaia Speck of Sergeant Bluff; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and cousins; father in-law, Harry and Robyn Cokens of Norfolk, Neb.; sister-in-law, Denise Powell of Sioux City; brother-in-law, Marcus Stevens of Kansas City, Mo.; brother-in-law, Shawn Stevens of Marian, Ill.; and grandmother-in-law, Betty Powell.
He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Sharon Watkins; and his paternal and maternal grandparents.
