Mary A. Bell, 83, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2016, at Sunrise Retirement Community.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Church of the Nativity, with the Rev. Steven McLoud officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Mary was born on Dec. 30, 1932, in Preston, Iowa, the daughter of Lesley and Abigail (Downey) Swaney. She grew up in Preston, graduating from Preston High School in 1950.
Mary married Leroy Bell on Jan. 29, 1955, in South Sioux City. They made their home in Sioux City. Mary worked as a cook in various nursing homes in the area. Most recently as a dietary supervisor at Sunrise Retirement Community.
Mary was a member of Church of the Nativity, the Women's Guild and the funeral committee. She enjoyed entertaining the family, reading and cooking.
Survivors include her husband, Leroy Bell of Sioux City; three sons, Robert (Dona) Bell of Lake Zurich, Ill. William (Judy) Bell of Sioux City, and Thomas (Dianne) Bell of Sioux City; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, James Bell; brother, Harold; and sister, Mildred.
