Alan L. Arnold, 68, of Sioux City passed away Friday, March 11, 2016, at a local hospital.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Alan was born on Dec. 26, 1947, in Vandalia, Ill., to Cyrus and Lola (Hicks) Arnold. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. Alan graduated from high school in Paris, Ill., earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Eastern Illinois University, and his Phd in music from University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana.
Alan started his teaching career at Mt. Scenario in Lady Smith, Wis. He then started teaching with the Sioux City Community School District and Morningside College for many years, retiring in 2014.
He was a member of the Sioux City Symphony Orchestra, Sioux City Municipal Band, Rockestra and Dixie Daddys. Alan enjoyed books, music, golf and Cardinals baseball.
Those left to honor his memory include his son, Christopher (Juha) Arnold of Junction City, Kan.; granddaughter, Yuna Arnold; mother, Lola Arnold of Mt. Vernon, Ill.; brother, Gerry Arnold of Mt. Vernon; sisters, Becky (Al) Smith of Orcas Island, Wash., and Renee (John) Carter of Streator, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father.
Memorials may be made to the family for music education around Siouxland.
