Alan Leonard Dale, 99, of Hinton died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015, at a Sioux City assisted living facility.
Graveside services were held in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City. Arrangements were under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Alan was born in Great Falls, Mont., on Oct. 15, 1915, the son of Louis and Hilda (Olson) Dale. He moved to Sioux City and later joined the U.S. Army in 1942. While in the service, he served in northern France, Germany and central Europe. After the war, he returned to Sioux City.
On Nov. 13, 1948, he married Martha Waite in South Sioux City. The couple lived in Sioux City and then moved to a farm east of Hinton. They lived there for many years until moving to Bickford Cottage in Sioux City. Alan owned and operated a livestock commission firm at the Sioux City Stockyards.
He was a member of Hinton United Methodist Church. He loved his dog and working with cattle.
He is survived by his wife, Martha of Sioux City; a special friend and his wife, Larry and Mary Bunch of Hinton; a niece; and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Linda Dale.
