Alberna M. "Bert" Donovan, 83, of Omaha, formerly of Sioux City, passed away Saturday, March 29, 2014, at Immanuel Fontenelle Home in Omaha.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sioux City. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Alberna was born on Aug. 30, 1930, in Des Moines, to Walter and Stella (Baker) Mitchell. She graduated from Des Moines High School.
She was united in marriage to John T. Donovan on Nov. 4, 1950, in Des Moines. He preceded her in death on Feb. 5, 1989. In 1995, Alberna moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Alberna was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sioux City. She was a Chicago Cubs baseball fan and enjoyed gardening, sewing, puzzles, and spending time with her family.
Those left to honor her memory include her children, Patricia (Lawrence) Guillaume of Sioux City, Therese Cockerill of Spalding, Neb., Kathleen Donovan of Omaha, Susan Donovan of Omaha, Timothy (Judy) Donovan of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Caroline (Robert) Keegan of Sioux City; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Darlene Mitchell of Casper, Wyo.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; and brother, Patrick Mitchell.
Her grandchildren will be serving as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Immanuel Fontenelle Home in Omaha.
