Albert L. Kirchner, 79, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, March 25, 2018 at a Sioux City hospital.
Memorial services will be 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, 2320 Outer Drive North, in Sioux City, with the Rev. Jerry Erickson officiating.
Albert was born on May 27, 1938, in Correctionville, Iowa, the son of Wesley and Nina (Whitesell) Kirchner. After graduating from Correctionville Public High School in 1956, he served four years in the U.S. Navy.
He married Linda Wright on July 22, 1961 in Correctionville. Albert was project manager for 34 years with the Iowa Department of Transportation, retiring in 2000.
Through the years, Albert loved spending time with his family, carpentry work, home renovations, crossword puzzles, playing computer games and playing the slots.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 57 years, Linda Kirchner; and daughters, Lori (Keith) Love of Dakota City, Shari (Joe) Funck of Dakota Dunes, and Vicki Hansen of Sioux City. He was blessed with five grandchildren, Kory (Amber) Love of South Sioux City, Kelsey (Trent) Groves of Dakota City, Kayla (Tyler) Bousquet of South Sioux City, Nicole (Nate) O'Bryan of Dell Rapids, S.D., and Shyler (Aaron Duffy) Funck of Minneapolis; and 14 great-grandchildren, Kamden, Scott and Jackson Love, Alianna, twins Braelee and Kinlee, Lannah and Carver Groves, Jaedyn, Julianne, Jameson Bousquet and Jemma Voss, and the O'Bryan twins due in August. Albert is also survived by a brother, Gary (Thelma) Kirchner of Holstein, Iowa; a sister, Barb (Terry) Westbrook of Sioux City; two sisters-in-law, Fern Kirchner and Annette Kirchner, both of Correctionville; a brother-in-law, Terry (Colleen) Wright of Sioux City; two sisters-in-law, LaVonne Wright of Sioux City, and Linda Wright of Correctionville; and many nieces and nephews.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Earl "Pete" Kirchner and Richard Kirchner (3-17-2018); father and mother-in-law, Walter "Dunk" and Ruth (Jaacks) Wright; three brothers-in-law, Roland, Norman and Fred Wright; and a sister-in-law, Lana Wright.
