Albert R. Ten Kate, 78, of Sioux City passed away Friday, Jan. 1, 2016, at a local hospital of complications from a severe infection.
Per his request cremation rites have been accorded. His cremains will be scattered at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Online condolences can be sent to the family at

Al was born on Oct. 1, 1937, in Hackensack, N.J., to Herbert and Gertrude (Wiersma) Ten Kate. He grew up in Midland Park, N.J. He graduated from high school and then joined the U.S. Air Force. He drove semis for years in the New Jersey area.
He was united in marriage to Mimi Babij on Aug. 5, 1986, in Sioux City. Al worked as a truck driver for Guntrun Trucking.
He enjoyed eating, reading, mob and war movies, Jeopardy, political discussions, talking truck, and driving a semi-truck.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Mimi Ten Kate of Sioux City; son, William Ten Kate of Omaha; sister, Ruth Schultz and her husband, Walter of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; a brother-in-law, Joseph Babij and his children, J.R. and Brandon; a cousin, Steven, all of New Jersey; many other relatives from New Jersey; and various local friends and coworkers.
