Alden "Al" Scheer formerly of Sioux City passed away Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008, at his son's residence in Minnesota following long battle with cancer. He was 77 years, four months and 28 days old.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel in Sioux City, with the Rev. Paul Spaulding of Morningside Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Al was born in Danbury, Iowa, on Sept. 20, 1930, the son of Edward and Lillian Scheer. He attended rural schools. He started working at the age of 13. Throughout his life he worked numerous jobs like a cook, press operator, cement finisher and plastic operator.
He spent his retirement traveling, cooking and spending time with his many friends. He traveled all over the United States. He was a very loving family man.
He is survived by a son and his wife, Bill and Linda of Minnesota; two sisters, DeEthel Bumann of Iowa, and Ardis Scott of Texas; two brothers, Kenneth of Iowa, and Merlin of Minnesota; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Lillian; his wife, Shirley; two brothers, Edmer and Luverne; and two sisters, Regina and Joy.
