KINGSLEY, Iowa -- Alfred Dean Malcom, 78, of Kingsley died Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Moville United Methodist Church in Moville, Iowa, with the Rev. Ed Frank officiating. Burial will be in Arlington Township Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the U.S. Army. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until service time Friday at the church. Alfred was born Dec. 24, 1932, in Moville, the son of Dean and Ethel (Smith) Malcom. He attended country school just outside of Moville. He joined the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1953. He worked as a truck driver.
Alfred married Virginia Kabisch on March 30, 1974, in Elk Point, S.D. They made their home in the Moville area. He and Virginia moved to Sloan, Iowa, and managed the Lazy W Motel during the 1980s until they were wiped out by a tornado. They returned to Moville for several years before moving to Kingsley in 1997.
Alfred was a member of the American Legion Post 140 in Kingsley. He was an avid reader who enjoyed puzzles, fishing, building lawn furniture, building model cars and trucks and walking his dog, Lesha.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Malcom of Kingsley; 12 children, Danny and Connie Schultzen of Moville, Beverly and Jim Masters and Carol and Keith Jensen, all of Billings, Mont., Connie and Robert Cramer of Fairmont, Minn., Terry and Patricia Schultzen of Lawton, Iowa, Jeanette and Larry Lage of Whiting, Iowa, Brian and Ronette Schultzen of Moville, Randy and Beverly Schultzen of Lawton, Kelvin and Rose Schultzen of Moville, Betty and Bob Farmer of Kingsley, Susan and Heath Naberhaus of South Sioux City, and Joni Heck and Russ Musick of Sergeant Bluff; a daughter-in-law, Karen Reynolds of Sioux City; 28 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Jerry Bringman and Shirley Sanders; a brother, Robert Malcom; stepbrothers, stepsisters, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dean and Ethel Malcom; a son, Stephen; a granddaughter, Raejean Schultzen; and a great-grandson, Gabrial Clausen.
