Sioux City - Alfred James Marshall, 80, of Sioux City, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2013, at home.

Alfred was born Aug. 8, 1932, in Effingham, Ill. He joined the U.S. Army in 1948, and was assigned as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division. After leaving the Army in 1952, he returned to Effingham.
Alfred moved to Sioux City in the 1960s. Alfred worked as a welder with Wilson Trailer for many years until his retirement.
Alfred was a man of few words, whose actions spoke louder than words. Alfred was an accomplished bowler who bowled in several leagues until the last few months.
Survivors include five children from his first marriage, Rita Krolczpy of Texas, Susan Bell of Illinois, Christina Odell of Illinois, George Miller of Illinois and Julie Swartz of Illinois; three daughters in Iowa, Dahlia (Josh) Risner of Sioux City, Daisy (Rodney) of Sioux City and Violet (Barry) Gomes of Park City, Kan.; and grandchildren, Daisy, Lillian, Tristen, Blaze, Wyatt, Nicole, Natalie and Nathan.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother; his parents; and his brother, George.
