Alice Thelma Behrens entered into rest, comforted by her husband, Loren, and daughters, Pat, Jan and Kay, on Thursday, April 17, 2008, in Columbia, Mo., after battling Alzheimer's disease.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Morningside Lutheran Church in Sioux City. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel in Sioux City.
Alice was born Jan. 5, 1926, in Sioux City, the daughter of Elmer and Petra Wright and a 10th-generation descendent of Thomas Macy, the original purchaser of Nantucket Island. She married Loren Behrens on Nov. 21, 1952.
She spent her first 50 years in Sioux City. She was active in her church, Morningside Lutheran Church, volunteered at her children's school and worked for the Woodbury County Zoning Department.
In 1975, she and her family moved to Sioux Falls, S.D., then in the summer of 2005, moved with her husband to Columbia, Mo. She was a member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Columbia.
During her life, she was proud and supportive of her family and cherished all of her family's accomplishments. She enjoyed camping, fishing, reading, playing cards and was quick to embrace the personal computer revolution. Her passion for the computer was evident in her willingness to assist others at The Center for Active Generations in Sioux Falls.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Loren; daughters and their husbands, Pat and Mark Jacobs of Bettendorf, Iowa, Jan and Tom O'Neal of Columbia, Mo., and Kay and John Rickwa of Lenexa, Kan.; sons, Mark Behrens and his wife, Lark and George Behrens, all of Tucson, Ariz.; a brother, Richard Wright of Manchester, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two nieces; and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Eric Jacobs.
