Alice Irene King, age 88, of Sioux City passed away on June 20, 2017 in Conroe, Texas.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00am Thursday June 29, 2017 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with interment following in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4-8pm with the family present 6-8pm and a Vigil service at 7:00pm at Morningside Chapel Christy Smith Funeral Homes.
Alice was born on April 4, 1929 in Anthon, Iowa the daughter of Cornelius and Gertrude (Rhode) Walling. She attended rural Woodbury County schools and graduated from Anthon High School She then attended Morningside College.
She was united in marriage with Ellis F. King on November 29, 1951 in Papillion, Nebraska. The couple lived in Correctionville for a few years before moving to Laurens, Iowa then on to Moville, Iowa eventually moving to Sioux City in 1959.
Alice was a homemaker who was known as the Stamp Lady at Longfellow School selling war stamps to students and staff. She also worked at Williges Department Store, and served as a Girl Scout Leader. Alice was a 49 year survivor of breast cancer. She was an active member of Curves For Women in Morningside as well as Stretch And Flex at WITCC where she met some very dear friends.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years Ellis, her daughter Ruth Gernhart of Houston, Texas, and her son Craig King of Holden, Missouri. She is also survived by her three grandchildren: Tracy Schaub and her husband Dean, Adam Gernhart, and Sarah Gernhart and her husband Kenneth Mendez. Her great-grandchildren: Dyson Schaub, Davis Schaub, Dylan Schaub, Emily Gernhart and Madison Gernhart. Alice is also survived by her sisters: Corleen (Bob) Anderson, Coletta (Orv) Goettsch, Charlotte Petersen, and Lorraine (Al) Warren; many nieces and nephews.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, sisters: Margaret (Clair) White, Kathryn (Dick) Peter, Bernadine Walling and her brothers Donald (Dee) Walling, Richard Walling, and William (Betty) Walling.
