Allan L. "Brownie" Brown, 89, of Sioux City died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2007, at Casa De Paz Nursing Home following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Church of the Nativity. Mr. Brown will be cremated and burial of the cremated remains will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 5:30 p.m. today, with the family present, a 4 p.m. rosary recited by the Catholic Daughters of America, and a parish vigil service at 4:45 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Funeral Chapel. There will be no viewing.

Allan L. Brown was born Nov. 15, 1918, in Bloomfield, Neb., the son of Clifford and Mary May (Mahoney) Brown. He attended Sioux City schools, graduating from Central High with the class of 1936. Brownie entered military service on Aug. 25, 1942, and served in the European Theater of Operations. He was discharged on Nov. 3, 1945.

He married Gerri Booth-McClendon on July 2, 1956. Allan was employed by the Sunshine Grocery Store chain for his entire working career as a manager of several different locations. He was a member of the Downtown Kiwanis Club and Nativity Catholic Church Men's Club for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Gerri of Sioux City; his daughter, Mary Holloway of Homer, Neb.; a stepson, Michael E. McClendon and his wife, Sue of Fremont, Neb.; two grandsons, Thomas E. Holloway of Onawa, Iowa, and Christopher J. Holloway of Dakota City; four stepgrandchildren and their wives, Eric D. McClendon and Jodi of Sioux City, Michael J. McClendon and Melanie of Harwood Heights, Ill., Matthew A. McClendon and Tadhg of Sioux City, and Theresa Gonzalez and Eddy of Sioux City; six great-grandchildren, Saniyya, Rafe and Riker McClendon and Minna, Linda and Carolina Gonzalez, all of Sioux City; close family friend, Loriann Tague; two brothers; and a sister.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Cathy Rose; and a sister, Dorothy.
