Sioux City | Allen J. Houts, 56, of Sioux City died on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012 at his home
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Calvary Episcopal Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Stacy Gerhart officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m., followed by a Masonic service, at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Allen was born in Estherville, Iowa on Aug. 31, 1956. He was the son of Kelly and Mary A. (Thompson) Houts. He was raised in Sioux City and graduated from East High School in 1975. Allen was self-employed for a while siding homes. He then worked for Guarantee Roofing, Broyhill Manufacturing and was working for Design Homes in Salix, Iowa until he retired due to poor health.
Allen was very active in the Masons and the Shrine. He was a member of Morningside Lodge 615, was the past commander of the Columbian Commandery 18, was the Past Excellent High Priest of the Sioux City Chapter 26, Royal Arch Masons, and was a past Illustrious Master of Zadok Council 24. He served as captain for the Abu Bekr Rat Patrol and won several trophies with the Rat Patrol. Allen was an excellent carpenter, but what he loved most was spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of Calvary Episcopal Church
He is survived by his three children, Shawn and Jasmine Allgood of Chesapeake, Va., Thomas and Denise Houts of Sioux City, and Crystal Huls of Sioux City; nine grandchildren, Jaiden, Kloie, Austin, Jace, Zoey, Kayla, Kira, Parker and Jonnathan; his father, Kelton E. Houts of Sioux City; five sisters, Suzanne and Marlin Berry of Sloan, Iowa, Karen and Robin Nissen of Sioux City, Mary K. and Floyd Baklund of Sioux City, Patricia Moorhouse of Park Rapids, Minn., and Kellie and Ray DiGiovanni of North Andover, Mass.; and one brother, George and Jodi of Omaha.
He was preceded in death by his mother and a brother, Jeffrey.
