Allen married Ruth (Groves) on June 3, 1961, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Sioux City. Allen worked as a salesman for M&M Mars, retiring in 2000. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. As a couple, Allen and Ruth enjoyed traveling all over the United States – he was known for wandering off and finding either new friends or someone he knew no matter where in the country he was. The other most important part of their life was going to their grandchildren’s activities, whether it was sport or other activities. Allen and Ruth were quite generous to the time spent and donations to the community.

Allen was preceded in death by his beloved wife, his parents, and in-laws.
