Alma F. Hoag, 90, of Sioux City, passed from this life Sunday, April 23, 2017, after a brief illness, to join her heavenly father and waiting family and friends.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at New Life Community Church, with the Rev. Jonathan Young officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Alma was born to Willard and Vina (Chamberlain) Bursell, in Vermillion, S.D. She married Howard J. Hoag in August 1946. They had seven children, 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Alma and Howard spent many years serving as foster parents in the local area and she truly enjoyed the numerous children that touched her heart and her life.
She loved to bake and her cinnamon rolls and apple pies were well-known and enjoyed by many. Alma also enjoyed camping and spending time with family and friends -- the coffee pot was always on. In her later years, she enjoyed a special friendship with Don Lucart and later, Lyle McInnis, her very dear friend.
Alma is survived by her sons, Danny (Charlotte) of Kansas City, Mo., John (Judy) of Kansas City, Kan., Tom (Carol) of Kansas City, and daughter, Copper Cole and Brian Sanders.
Preceding her in death and waiting in heaven are her husband, Howard; son, Kenneth; daughter, Beverly (Grauf); and son, Russell.
Our family would like to give special thanks and appreciation to UnityPoint St. Luke's 4A nursing staff and Hospice of Siouxland. Your professional and loving care of our mom will be forever remembered.
