SIOUX CITY -- Alma Thies, 85, of Sioux City passed away Friday, May 14, 2010, at Countryside Retirement Center in Sioux City.
Private family services will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Pepin, Wis. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Alma was born May 15, 1924, at Glentana, Mont., the daughter of Alfred and Alma (Theis) Harden. As a young girl, she moved with her family to Washington and attended high school there.
Alma married Roy Thies on April 28, 1949, at Moses Lake, Wash. Together they made their home in Moses Lake for a short time before moving to Oregon, Texas, Wyoming and Indiana. They moved to Sioux City in 1960, where Alma worked at Bell Telephone and St. Luke's.
Alma spent years volunteering at Goodwill working in the antique department. She also enjoyed sewing.
Survivors include her husband, Roy of Sioux City; a daughter, Carol and Kendall Smith of Sioux City; two granddaughters, Lori and Todd Jansen of Branson, Mo., and Lisa and Michael Wilhoit of Ozark, Mo.; a grandson, Kelly Smith of Gretna, Neb.; eight great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Luella Martin of Kelso, Wash.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; and three sisters.
