Alvin H. "Rowdy" Henning, 93, of Moville, died Monday, Oct. 24, 2016, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Moville, with the Rev. Brad Pelzel officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s section of Gilman Township Cemetery near Ashton, Iowa. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Alvin was born on Feb. 4, 1923, in Adrian, Minn., to William and Elizabeth (Bullerman) Henning. The family moved to the Ashton area, where he attended school. In 1937, Alvin decided to continue his education and went to school for auto body repair in Estherville, Iowa. He worked in the auto body repair business in Michigan for several years. Alvin enlisted in the military on Dec. 21, 1942 and served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee. He was honorably discharged on Dec. 31, 1945. After his discharge from the Navy, he moved to Sioux City and went to work for a local auto body shop.
He married Lorraine Feldman on Nov 5, 1949 in Sioux City. Alvin later decided to open his own auto body repair business (Henning Body Shop) in Moville, retiring in 1985. Alvin and Lorraine enjoyed spending winters in Apache Junction, Ariz.
His hobbies included silversmith work and wood carving. He was a member of the NW Iowa Woodcarvers. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Moville, and the American Legion Wink-Sparks Post 303. He served as a volunteer fireman for the Moville Fire and Rescue Squad, and was a member of the Meadows Country Club.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Lorraine of Moville; a sister in-law, Sylvia Henning of Le Mars, Iowa; three sisters-in-law, Myrna Heronemus of Ashton, Iva Jean Ott of Davenport, Iowa, and Agnes Feldman of Sibley, Iowa; numerous nieces and nephews; and his coffee buddies.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Florence Klosterman, Caroline Seivert, and Odelia Schulz; two brothers, Roger Henning and Arthur Henning; three brothers-in-law, Elmer Heronemus, Jerry Ott and Marvin Feldman; and sisters-in-law and their husbands, Pearl Wolf and Bob, Velma Winter and Ken, and Lois Krull and Albertus.
