Andrea J. Conrad, 77, of South Sioux City, passed away Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016, at a Sioux City hospital, with her nephew, Roger, at her side.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Evangelical Free Church, 401 Ninth St, in Sioux City. Inurnment will be in Newcastle Cemetery, Newcastle, Neb. Arrangements are under the direction Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Andrea was born on Aug. 27, 1939, in Newcastle, Neb., to Jack and Clara (Lofgren) Conrad. She graduated from Newcastle High School, Wayne State College, and received her master's degree in education from Morningside College. Before attending Wayne State, she worked for Iowa Senator Charles B. Hoeven in Washington, D.C. After college, she worked for many years as a second grade teacher at E.N. Swett Elementary School in South Sioux City.
Andrea volunteered for the Civil Air Patrol for several years. She was a member of First Evangelical Free Church and was active in the music department at the churches she attended, often playing the piano. She enjoyed family gatherings and getting together with her cousins.
Those left to honor her memory include her sister, Jean Armstrong of Ponca, Neb.; brother, J.C. Conrad of Lincoln, Neb.; lifelong friend, Hedda Dekker of South Sioux City; sister-in-law, Beverly Conrad of Yankton, S.D.; nine nieces and nephews; and several great-grand and grandnieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Darrel Conrad; nephew, Kenny Conrad in infancy; and brother-in-law, Ross Armstrong.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the South Sioux City Fire and Rescue.
The family would like to thank the Surgery Recovery Team at Mercy Medical, who are among some of the best medical professionals on earth, for the wonderful care they took of Andrea.
