Sioux City | Angela Clare O'Connor, 95, of Ballwin, Mo., formerly of Sioux City, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at her residence.
Services will be noon Saturday at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City, with the Rev. Michael Erpelding officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 10 to 11:45 a.m. Saturday, with a rosary at 11:30 a.m., at the funeral home.
Angela Clare Duffy O'Connor was born on Dec. 18, 1916, in Fonda, Iowa, the daughter of Francis E. Duffy and Mayme Walsh Duffy. She attended Our Lady of Good Counsel School in Fonda and graduated from Fonda High School. She attended the National Business Training College in Sioux City, graduating in 1937. She was employed with Kaplan Wholesale Grocery Company as a bookkeeper for their retail stores.
She married Vincent R. O'Connor on Aug. 19, 1940, at St. Mary's Church in Sac City, Iowa. Vincent passed away on Nov. 19, 1974. To this union two sons were born, Thomas Patrick O'Connor and Raymond Joseph O'Connor, and a daughter, Mary Melinda O'Connor Martin. Angela was a stay-at-home wife and mother while her children were growing. She enjoyed their participation in Boy Scouts, religious activities, school events, music and sports. She retired in 1986, being employed with the Catholic Diocese of Sioux City as the office manager of their weekly Catholic newspaper, The Globe. She moved to Grand Island, Neb. in May 2004 to be near her family. In July 2012, she moved to the St. Louis, Mo., area to live with her daughter and son-in-law.
Angela was a 54-year member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sioux City, where she was an active member of the Legion of Mary, the Blue Army of Fatima and St. Joseph Guild. She was a charter member of the Queen of Peace Shrine in Sioux City. She was a former member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the Third Order of Carmelites. She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral in Grand Island.
She enjoyed traveling with family and friends and visiting grandchildren when they were growing up in Grand Island. After retirement, she also spent time visiting her daughter and son-in-law in St. Louis. Angela and Mary made two trips to Europe visiting Italy, France, Spain, and Portugal with their friend, the Rev. Harold Cooper. Angela also traveled to Mexico and Canada.
Survivors include her children, Thomas, and Raymond (Jennifer) O'Connor, all of Grand Island, and Mary (Scott) O'Connor Martin of St. Louis, Mo.; two sisters, Marie Hamm of Sioux City, and Grace Green of Sac City, Iowa; a brother, Raymond (Donita) Duffy of Sac City; grandchildren, Sean O'Connor, Kelli (O'Connor) Holl, and Ryan O'Connor; and great-grandchildren, Patrick O'Connor and Elijah and Abigail Holl.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Francis Joseph Duffy.
