Anne Brewer, 94, passed away Monday, February 12, 2018, at Whispering Creek Active Retirement Community in Sioux City, IA.
A memorial service will be held Friday, April 6, 2018, at Faith United Presbyterian Church, 4327 Morningside Ave., Sioux City, at 11:00 am with Rev. David Koehler officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Christy-Smith Funeral Home, Morningside, assisted the family with arrangements.
Anne was born December 13, 1923, in Sioux Falls, SD, to Emil and Mary (Olejczuk) Gembarowski. She graduated from Washington High School, Sioux Falls, in 1941. After graduation, she worked at John Morrell and Company as a secretary.
Anne married Robert W. Brewer on February 15, 1947, in Sioux Falls. They would have celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary this year. They lived in Sioux Falls until 1953 when they moved to Sioux City. After raising her family, Anne worked at Prince Manufacturing for a few years before moving to Humboldt, IA in 1972. Five years later, she moved to Storm Lake, IA, where they lived until returning to Sioux City in 2013.
Anne was a member of Morningside Presbyterian Church in Sioux City and Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake. She was actively involved in church activities and belonged to the ladies circles. She loved to play cards and so enjoyed her many bridge groups. She was also very artistic and creative and belonged to craft groups. Her talent was displayed in her china painting and the numerous handmade cards she loved to make. Gardening was also one of Anne’s many activities. Anne was also an active volunteer, volunteering at Harper House and Santa’s Village in Storm Lake. She worked the voting polls for many years while in Storm Lake.
Anne is survived by her children, Marcia (Greg) Corsiglia of Melbourne, Australia, Janice (Dennis) Wood of Doylestown, PA, Kevin (Cindy) Brewer of Sioux City; six grandchildren, Amanda Wood, Matthew Wood, David Lyon, Katie (Paul) Martin, Adam Brewer, Ashley (Travis) McCarter; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert in 2013; her parents; three sisters; and two brothers.
The family has requested that memorials be directed to Glory Community, 4195 Broadmoor Loop, Broomfield, CO 80023, a residential community for adults with developmental disabilities. They would also like to thank the staff at Whispering Creek Active Retirement Community for their excellent care.
