Annette Celeste ""Toni"" Flannery (Koopman)

August 28, 1926 — May 16, 2009

HINTON, Iowa -- Annette Celeste "Toni" Flannery, 82, of Hinton died Saturday, May 16, 2009, at a Sioux City nursing home.

Services will be 7 p.m. Thursday at Larkin Northside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jason Larson of Le Mars (Iowa) United Methodist Church officiating. Private graveside services will be at a later date. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Toni was born Aug. 28, 1926, in Sibley, Iowa, the daughter of E.H. and Idella (Walton) Koopman. She was raised in Sibley and graduated from Sibley High School in 1944. She graduated from the University South Dakota in 1950. After graduation, she moved to Des Moines, where she went to work for Younkers Department Store as a commercial artist.

On Nov. 28, 1952, she married Arthur Flannery in Sibley during a blizzard. The couple made their home in rural Hinton, where they raised their three sons.

She lived a wonderful and full life. She traveled extensively from Hawaii to Cuba and made many trips to the city she loved, New York, N.Y. She was a traveler not a tourist. She was a talented artist and was known for her homemade rolls. The most important part of her life was, without a question, her unconditional love for her husband, her children and her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her husband; her three sons, Joe (Becki) and Jack (Julie), both of Hinton and Mike (Dana) of Sioux City; three grandchildren, Kate (Dan) Fitzpatrick, Megan Flannery and Pat Flannery; and her brother, John (Jane) Koopman of Appleton, Wis.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Harold Koopman and Cedric Klippstein.
