Anthony 'AJ' Michels

Anthony James "A.J." Michels, 20, of Offutt AFB in Nebraska, formerly of North Sioux City, died Thursday, July 31, 2014, at Offutt AFB.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City. Burial will be in McCook Cemetery, McCook Lake, S.D. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
A.J. was born on April 14, 1994, in Sioux City, the son of Tami Michels. He attended Riverside Elementary through the third grade. He then attended and graduated from Dakota Valley, where he enjoyed helping with the theater lighting. During his high school years, he worked at KayJo’s Pizza. After his graduation, he joined the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Offutt Air Force Base.
A.J. enjoyed gaming with his friends, target practicing, learning to play his guitar, cars and fishing.
Survivors include his mother, Tami Michels and Ron Hayden of North Sioux City; a sister, Kasey Michels, and a brother, Jacob Michels, both of North Sioux City; maternal grandparents, Barry and Diane Mansfield of Sioux City; good friends, Dannie Derby, Colton Gamet and Dominick Jungers; and aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Jim and Jane Michels.
