Anthony "Tony" Bilunos, 93, of Sioux City passed away on Friday, July 4, 2008, at Sunrise Retirement Community.
Services will be 11:30 a.m. today at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, 1801 Morningside Ave. Burial will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery. No visitation is scheduled. Online condolences may be sent to

Anthony "Tony" Joseph Bilunos was born March 1, 1915, in Sioux City, to Anthony and Catherine (Swiskita) Bilunos. He graduated from East High School with the class of 1933, where he was an outstanding athlete in football, basketball and track.
Tony married Helen L. Goodrich on June 25, 1938, in Sioux City. He became a police officer on the Sioux City Police Department in 1943. That same year, he entered the U.S. Army and served in the infantry as part of the 3rd Army, 94th Division, in Europe. He was awarded the following medals, Combat Infantry Badge, a Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars during his service as a sergeant.
After the war, he returned to Sioux City and resumed his career on the Sioux City Police Department. He was promoted to sergeant in 1952 and was honored as "Policeman of the Year" in 1978. He retired from the police force at the age of 65, after serving 35 rewarding years of public service for Sioux City.
Survivors include his son, Dr. Paul and wife, Susan of Lincoln, Calif.; his daughter, Donna Lisser of Jacksonville, Fla.; two grandsons, Rick and Brian Lisser; two great-grandsons, Zachary and Travis; and two sisters, Catharine Ruchensky and Sophie Suknot.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, in 2006, after 67 years of marriage.
