Sioux City - Antony R. "Tony" Gunn, 19, of Sioux City, was called home to Heaven Thursday, April 18, 2013, in Omaha.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Grace United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, with family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are with Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Tony was born Nov. 24, 1993, in Sioux City, the son of Rick and Michelle (Knittel) Gunn. Tony was a 2012 graduate of East High School. He was studying theater and acting at the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
He was the 2011 homecoming king. He was an East Headliner, and active in most fine arts, including show choirs, band, jazz band, orchestra, Lamb Theatre, UNO Theatre, East High Theatre, speech and drama.
He participated in Floyd Youth Softball. He enjoyed camping and was a senior patrol leader of Boy Scout Troop 208. He helped establish the Grace United Methodist youth bell choir, and was active in the church. He worked at Culver's in Sioux City during high school, and at Old Navy in Omaha.
He was a giver to the community. Tony was a vibrant, fun-loving kid who loved everyone. He possessed a smile that could light up the room. Tony was a big teddy bear, and was always willing to give a hug. Tony loved "The Lion King," and enjoyed attending a performance with his family recently. He loved life, and had aspirations of becoming a Broadway performer. Tony was happiest when he was performing. He relished time spent with friends and family and lived his life to the fullest.
Survivors include his parents Michelle and Rick Gunn of Sioux City; brothers, Cody, Levi, Macean and Colton of Sioux City; great-grandmother, Dorothea Knittel of Sioux City; grandparents, Cloyd Gunn of South Sioux City, and Glendina and Jim Barry Onawa, Iowa; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jeanne and Sid Knittel, and Rosalie Gunn; great-grandfather, Raymond Knittel; grandmother, Betty Gunn; and uncle, Randy Gunn.
A memorial fund has been established at Security National Bank.
