Arby June McAlpine, 78, of Sioux City died Friday, July 27, 2007, at a local hospital after a brief battle with cancer.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Grace United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Nancy Allen officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.
Arby June was born on Dec. 28, 1928, in Correctionville, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Margaret (Smith) Browning. The family moved to Sioux City when Arby June was young, and she had lived here since that time. She had worked at Fairmont Foods and Zenith Corp. before spending many years at Interbake Foods. She retired in 1997.
She married Claude A. McAlpine on Aug. 10, 1956, in Elk Point, S.D. He passed away on March 31, 1998 in Sioux City.
She was a 50-year plus member of Grace United Methodist Church and Martha Circle in the church, the Red Hat Society, Siouxland Senior Center and Happy Hoofers, a tap dancing group in the Senior Center. Arby June enjoyed time with family and friends, holiday gatherings, cooking and taking care of her baby dog, "Snickles."
Survivors include two daughters, Susan (Dell) Wicker of Sioux City and Deanna (Tim) Hall of Sioux City; a son, Allen (Janet) McAlpine of Eagan, Minn; two stepdaughers, Charline (Don) Evans of North Platte, Neb. and Nancy (Jim) Mitchell of Ventura, Calif.; a stepson, Pete (Joyce) McAlpine of Wood River, Neb.; 17 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a nephew, Dennis (Sandy) Jorgensen of Sioux City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a sister, Maxine.
