Arlen Jerome Wiggs of Sioux City, went to his heavenly home on March 8, 2018, surrounded by his family, at his winter home in Texas.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sioux City. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., a rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes.
He was born on Oct. 10, 1936, in Whiting, Iowa, to Hamilton Alvin and Dorothy (Weis) Wiggs. Arlen graduated from Heelan Catholic High School in 1954. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a paratrooper from 1954 to 1957.
He met Patricia Simeon, the love of his life, in 1952. They were united in holy matrimony at St. Boniface Catholic Church on July 11, 1955. During their 62 years of marriage, they had seven children.
His life was dedicated to his faith and family. He began his civil service career in urban renewal in Sioux City, and after several moves he returned to Sioux City as community development director. He retired in 1996 as city manager.
Arlen enjoyed spending time with family and friends doing the things he loved including golf, surf fishing and travel. He and Patricia wintered in South Padre Island, Texas for more than 20 years as well as vacationed in several Caribbean Islands.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Simeon) Wiggs; seven children, Kim and husband, Greg Metz, Lyn and husband, Raymond DeMar, Lisa and husband, Richard Echols, Sara and husband, Todd Stych, Jerome and wife, Beverly Wiggs, Judi and husband, Greg Amerine, and Patrick and wife, Christina Wiggs; his brother, David and wife, Elvira Wiggs; sisters, Nancy and husband, Thomas Phillips, and Mary Pat and husband, Gary Trometer; 27 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hamilton Alvin and Dorothy Wiggs; brothers, James and Charles Wiggs; and granddaughter, Allison Stych.
He will be greatly missed by many.
