Arlene M. Bell (Witte)

Arlene May Bell, 82, of Sioux City died Wednesday, June 18, 2008, at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 23, 2008, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. The Rev. Leo Kostizen will officiate. Burial will be in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday in the Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. The family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A prayer service will be said at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Arlene was born on January 25, 1926, in Coal Springs, South Dakota, the daughter of Charles and Alma Witte. After graduating from high school she attended St. Joseph School of Nursing in Sioux City and became a Registered Nurse in 1948.

Arlene married Wayne Bell on December 14, 1951, in Estherville, Iowa. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sioux City. She sewed quilts for Lutheran World Relief with the Anna Circle. She enjoyed hiking in the Rocky Mountains, baking, sewing, flowers and NBA basketball. Her biggest joy was her family and their activities.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Wayne and her five children, Wayne and his fianceé, Rebecca of Kearney, Neb., Rebecca Bell of Mankato, Minn., Charles and his wife, Shelba of Rockwall, Texas, Laurie and her husband Jeff Baldwin of Sioux City and Nancy and her husband, John Bierschwale of Centennial, Col.; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Rex Witte of Glad Valley, So. Dak. And Dr. Willard Witte of Knoxville, Tenn.; and four sisters, Esther Kummerfeldt of Ruthven, Ia., Violet Zimmerman of Heber Springs, Ark., Joyce Hill of Omaha, Neb., and Grace Munyon of Isabel, So. Dak.; many nieces and nephews and all the people in her neighbor-hood who were like an extended family to her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Fritz, Frank, Charles, Robert and Edward Witte; and one sister, Freda Starkey.

Pallbearers will be Paul Witte, Ryan Roper, Mike Hill, Dan Hill, Dan Karpuk and Chris Karpuk.
