SIOUX CITY -- Arlene A. Nicolls, 63, of Delmar, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2011, at University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Craig Collison officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Berkemier Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Arlene was born Jan. 21, 1948, in Sioux City, to Arlo and Virginia (Ryan) Witters. She grew up in Sioux City and attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and later Heelan High School. She graduated from Harlem High in Machnesy Park, Ill.
She married Tom Nicolls on Nov. 4, 1967, in Sioux City. Arlene also resided in Kirkland, Ill., and Rockford, Ill. She moved to Delmar in 2006, when she retired from Hamilton-Sundstrand in Rockford after being employed for 25-plus years.
She was a current member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Delmar. She enjoyed reading, bird watching, gardening, crossword puzzles, and canning. She was an avid Cubs fan. She cherished being with her grandchildren and living life to the fullest.
Survivors include her husband, Tom of Delmar; a daughter, Kim and Doug Livingston of Love Park, Ill.; a son, Brian and Maureen Nicolls of Stillman Valley, Ill.; two grandchildren, Nicole and Nolan Livingston; a brother, Edward and Loretta Witters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a twin brother at birth.
