Arnold "Argo" G. Brannan, 96, of Sioux City died Monday, March 14, 2016, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Monsignor R. Mark Duchaine officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:30 to 8 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Berkemier Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Arnie was born on April 5, 1919, in Clarke S.D., the son of Olen and Caroline (Seefeldt) Brannan. He was raised in Clarke and moved to Iowa in the 1950s. Arnie served overseas with the U.S. Army during World War II and then worked as an iron worker until he retired at the age of 62.
He met, and married, his wife of 46 years, Agnes (Becker) Brannan, while working on the Gavins Point Dam in Yankton, S.D. Arnie and Agnes were married on July 7, 1956, in her home town of Crofton, Neb., and moved to Sioux City the same year.
Arnie lived for his family and many friends and enjoyed spending time with them, playing cards and watching his many grandchildren play sports.
Survivors include his two sons, Gary Becker and his wife, Kris of Fresno, Calif., and Darrell Becker and his wife, Marcia of Jefferson, S.D.; two daughters and their husbands, Kay and Barry Moreland and Michelle and Carl Combs, all of Sioux City; and many, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded by death by his parents; two brothers, Francis and Alfred; three sisters, Marie, Evelyn, and Berniece; and his beloved wife, Agnes.
Pallbearers will be Troy, Clint, and Wayne Becker, Jay Brannan, Justin, Brad and Lucas Combs, and Brian and Chad Moreland. Honorary pallbearer will be Shane Sweeney.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland, Holy Spirit Retirement Home and Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
