Arnold Grindberg

Arnold Bernhartdt Grindberg of Galveston, Texas passed away on June 21, 2023. He was 94 years old.

A funeral service will be 10:30 am Monday, July 3, 2023, at Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, Morningside Chapel, 1801 Morningside Ave., with visitation one hour prior. Burial will be in Graceland Park cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.christysmith.com .

Arnie was born on March 31, 1929, in Sioux City, Iowa to Arnold and Ellen (Wenberg) Grindberg. He attended Sioux City public schools and was a 1947 graduate of East High School. Following graduation Arnie moved to Washington DC where he worked for the FBI. Years later he moved back to Sioux City and worked for Knox. For the last 12 years, Arnie lived in the Galveston, Texas area.

In 1950 Arnie was married to Veronica Margaret Haskins. To this union was born 2 children. Sue Ellen and Mark Arnold. Subsequently Arnie married Jennie Gukanovich. This union produced 3 children Christopher Bernhartdt, Thomas Christian, and Matthew Arnold, and an adopted child, Leslie.

Arnie was a drummer. He grew up listening to classical and big band music. He was a percussionist for the Sioux City Symphony and played in a number of combos and bands, including the Mearl Lake Orchestra.

He was longtime member of Morningside Lutheran Church.

Arnie is preceded in death by his parents, Ellen and Arnold; three sisters, Marion, Margaret and Dorothy; a brother, Carleton; his first wife, Margaret; and a son, Christopher. He is survived by his second wife, Jennie; his daughters, Sue and Leslie; his sons, Mark, Thomas and Matthew; grandchildren, Nicholas, Anthony, Harrison, Ali, Jackson, Alan, and Katie; and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
