Arthur Del Houchins, 62, of Sioux City, died Sunday, Oct. 22, 2017, at Royal C. Johnson Memorial Medical Center in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes. Inurnment will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.
Arthur was born in Germany, on Oct. 15, 1955, the son of Delroy and Dorothy (Fischer) Houchins. The family returned to Sioux City upon his father's retirement from the military. Art attended Sioux City Community Schools and graduated from Sioux City East High School with the class of 1973. He then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, and faithfully served his country for eight years.
He was united in marriage with Susan Casavant in 1975, and two daughters were born to this union. The couple later divorced. Art was employed as a machinist for Prince Manufacturing and AGP. In later years before his health declined, he was a self-employed carpenter.
He was past president of the International Association of Machinists and Aero Space Workers Lodge 1426 in Sioux City. Art was also a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He enjoyed attending local stock car races, watching NASCAR on television and was a huge fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes. Art also loved listening to rock and roll music and spending time with his grandchildren.
His life will always be cherished by his daughters, Pamela McNaughton and husband, Shane, and Kristin King and her fiance, Rick Castillo, both of Sioux City; four grandchildren, Sidney, Shea, Madi, and Ava; one sister, Irene Bauza of California; along with many other friends and relatives.
Art was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Alan Houchins; and sister, Ina Miller.
