SERGEANT BLUFF -- Barbara G. Brown, 53, of Sergeant Bluff died Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at a Sioux City hospital.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. James United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ryan Christenson officiating. Private family graveside services will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Barb was born on Aug. 23, 1958, in Sioux City, to Delmar and Helen (Abrams) Gamble. She grew up in Sioux City and attended Whittier Elementary, East Jr. High and East High Schools.
On Aug. 5, 1978, she married Ralph Benton Brown in Sioux City. The couple later moved to Pawhuska, Okla. They later divorced. In 1995, she returned to the Siouxland area and had been a resident here ever since.
Barb was a full-time mom to her two children, but she also worked as a teacher's aide when she was in Pawhuska.
She was a member of St. James United Methodist Church. She enjoyed camping, fishing, swimming, and woodworking. She was very artistic and enjoyed crafts, country music, playing cards and family.
Survivors include her son, Ralph Benton Brown III and his wife, Patricia of Pawhuska; a grandson, Joshua Toon; her daughter, Sarah Rachel Brown of Seattle, Wash.; her father, Del Gamble of Sioux City; a sister, Susan M. and Gene Decker of Lexington, Neb.; brothers, Donald G. and Cheryl Gamble of Sioux City, Bruce E. and Lori Gamble of Spirit Lake, Iowa, and Scott P. and Diane Gamble of Minneapolis; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Helen Gamble; and her grandparents.
