Barb was born Sept. 22, 1935, in Sioux City, to Ben and Gene (Lewis) Lindberg. She grew up and attended Sioux City schools, graduating in 1953 from East High School. As a young girl, she enjoyed spending summers with her grandparents at their cottage in Spirit Lake, Iowa.
Joining the work force after graduation, she worked for C.J. Murray and later joined Pratt-Younglove Employment Agency. In 1971, she joined the staff at Security National Bank, holding positions in personal loans and human resources. During the majority of her career at Security National Bank, she was a personal banker. She retired in August 1999, after serving more than 28 years at Security Bank.
On Dec. 31, 2003, she married Donald O. Stevenson. They relocated to the Hinton area on the golf course (where bird watching was excellent). They spent their time between weekends at Lake Okoboji and enjoyed time with family.
She was a member of the Sierra Club and the Loess Hills Audubon Society. She devoted much love, time and energy as a care giver to family members including her mother and grandparents. Her interests included enjoying the company of her family, bird watching, gardening, sewing and reading.
She is survived by her husband, Donald of Hinton; daughter, Lisa and John Swanson of Bellevue, Neb.; Don's children, Mark and Wendy Stevenson of Sioux City, Drew and Donna Stevenson of Merrill, Iowa, and Julie and Dennis Fischer of Sioux City; and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and grandparents, Ben and Gene Lindberg, Earl and Alice Lewis, respectively.
Barb believed that a house without a dog is like a garden without flowers.
Memorials may be made to the Latham Park Trust Fund or the Siouxland Humane Society in her name.
