Barbara M. Jensen, 68, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Church of the Nativity, with the Rev. Steven McCloud officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. today, with a vigil service at 6 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Barbara was born Sept. 20, 1946, in Sioux City, to Allison and Viola (Harvey) Bauerly. Barbara grew up in Lawton, Iowa, and Luverne, Minn. She graduated from Luverne and went on to receive her nursing diploma from St. Joseph's School of Nursing. She earned her bachelor's degree from Briar Cliff and was working on her master's.
Barb married James Jensen in 1969 in Sioux City.
Barb spent 32 years at St. Luke's, with 20 of those years teaching at the school of nursing, and 12 years at Mercy before retiring. She was a very kind and caring nurse and enjoyed teaching young nurses.
Barb enjoyed traveling, family gatherings, and spending time with her grandchildren after her retirement. She was always welcoming others into the family, even adopting them as her own.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Jensen; her son, David (Lori) Jensen; grandchildren, Emma and Connor Jensen; brother, Gail (Betty) Bauerly; sisters-in-law, Sally Bauerly, Dawn Bauerly and Eileen Johnson Jensen Anderson; and brother-in-law, Rex Hansen.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sisters, Marilyn and Annetta; and brothers, Jack and Gordon.
