Barbara Lea Zellmer, 83, of Lawton died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2015, at her home with her loving family.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sioux City. Burial will be in Banner Township Cemetery, Lawton. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City.
Barbara Lea Hansen was born on June 9, 1932, in Hartington, Neb. She spent her childhood in Sioux City, with two years in California. Barbara graduated from Central High School and later from Nettleton Business College in Sioux City.
She married Alvin Zellmer on Dec. 14, 1950, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Barbara and Alvin shared 64 years together on their farm in Lawton. She worked in the service, business, and merchandising industries, including several years at Northwestern Mutual Life and MCI.
Barb put her family first and devoted herself to sharing her many passions with them. Her talents included sewing, knitting, quilting, gardening, canning, cooking, reading, traveling and history. She was a great communicator with family, friends and strangers. She was a long time member of St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she served with a willing heart. In the recent past, she attended First Baptist Church in Climbing Hill, Iowa, where she was a blessing to her church family.
Survivors include her husband, Alvin; three daughters, Kay Zellmer of Denver, Colo., Laurie (Ronald) Law of Lawton, and Leann (Andrew) Orr of Sioux City; three sons, James (Donna) Zellmer of Simpsonville, S.C., David Zellmer of Lawton, and Keith (Pam) Zellmer of Kosovo; 21 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Douglas Hansen; and her parents, Fern and Herman Hansen.
