Benita Rae Leff

Benita Rae Leff, 87, passed away on February 11, 2024, at a local hospital. 

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 pm on Sunday, February 18, 2024, at Christy-Smith Funeral Homes Morningside Chapel with a prayer service at 7 pm. Funeral service will be held at 10 am on Monday, February 19, 2024, at Christy-Smith Funeral Homes Morningside Chapel with Reverand Josh Loomis officiating. 

Benita was born on January 10, 1937, to Benjamin and Lois (Leittner) Bastian. She graduated from Central High School in 1956. On May 26, 1957, Benita was united in marriage to Roger Allen Leff at Trimble United Methodist Church in Sioux City. From this union, they were blessed with two sons, Kraig and Kevin, and a daughter, Karla. 

Benita was a lifelong resident of Sioux City. She served as a secretary for the Sioux City Public Schools. She was an active member of her community, involved in organizations such as the Siouxland Center for Active Generations, the retired educators of Siouxland, and the Church of All Nations.  In her spare time, she loved to dance, play cards and dominoes, and do water aerobics. 

She is survived by her sons, Kraig (Beth) Leff of Sioux City, Iowa, and Kevin (Tammie) Leff of Sioux City, Iowa; her daughter, Karla (Brad) Jalas of Granville, Iowa; sister, Fran Torgerson; her 14 grandchildren; her 14 great-grandchildren; along with many other relatives and friends. 

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roger; and her sister, Lola Taft.

The family requests that a donation to charity be given her in name as a memorial.
