Bernadette Florence "Bunny" Lyons, the daughter of Gilbert and Florence (Page) Lyons, was born on July 25, 1927, in Sioux City. She graduated from Central High School, and went on to earn an AA degree in administrative assistant from Nettleton Business College.
On Nov. 23, 1946, Bunny was united in marriage with Roy Austin Twining in Sioux City. She worked in the Copy Center at Iowa Public Service (now Mid-American Energy) for 25 years, retiring in 1993. Roy died on April 11, 2013.
Bunny was a member of Riverside United Methodist Church and the church circle. She did needlework for much of her life, crocheting beautiful afghans, doilies, and wonderful crafts that are greatly treasured, including decorated Christmas stockings for the great-grandchildren. Bunny tried many times to teach her daughter with ten thumbs how to sew and crochet, which was a true exercise in frustration. She also went to ceramic classes and made some beautiful and unique planters and cookie jars.
Bunny is survived by her children, David Twining (Judy) of Blue Grass, Iowa, Dennis Twining (Roberta) of Sioux City, and Kathleen (Gaborit) McClain (James) of Merrill, Iowa; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her siblings, Lucian Smith, Gilbert Lyons Jr., William Lyons and Duane Lyons; and a great-grandson, Michael Huck-Gaborit.
