Bernadine 'Bun' Sullivan

Bernadine G. “Bun” Sullivan, 97, of Jackson, NE died on Friday, May 16, 2014 at a Sioux City Hospital after a brief illness.
Funeral Services will be at 10:30am Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Jackson, NE. Fr. Paul Albenesius will officiate. Burial will be in South Creek Cemetery, Ponca, NE. Visitation will from 4:00pm to 8:00pm Monday at St. Patrick Church in Jackson. A rosary will be prayed at 4:00pm and a parish vigil service will be prayed at 7:00pm. Services are under the direction of the Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Bun was born on February 23, 1917 on the family farm near Jackson, NE. She was the daughter of William and Margaret (Hogan) Hartnett. She was raised in the Jackson area and graduated from St. Catherine’s Academy in 1934. On May 30, 1938 she married Maxwell P. “Jake” Sullivan at St. Patrick’s in Jackson. The couple made their home in Jackson were they raised their family. She was a stay at home mom which was the job she loved. Bun was a lifetime member of St. Patrick Church and active with parish alter society for many years. She was a spiritual leader and a prayer giant for her family and friends. She loved playing bingo, doing crossword puzzles and playing cards. She was also the local historian. Bun was known for her quick wit and a great sense of humor. Family was most important to her and she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She lived life to the fullest to the very end.
She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by those who survive her, her daughters and sons, Marcia and Jerry Wisnieski of Nevada, IA, Bill and Rita Sullivan of Jackson, NE, Mary Kay and Bill Barkley of Sioux City, IA, Mona and Dan O’Neill of Sioux Falls, SD, Patricia and Doug Conklin of Rock Mount, VA, Patrick and Celeste Sullivan of Springview, NE, Jim and Mary Sullivan of Jackson, NE. daughter in law, Diane Sullivan of Jackson, NE, 32 grandchildren, 59 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, her sister, Maxine Dineen of Redondo Beach, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jake, on October 4, 1980, her parents, an infant daughter, Mary Theresa, a son, Jerry Sullivan, a grandson, Phillip Barkley, 3 sisters and 6 brothers. In lieu of Flowers a memorial has been established in her name and may be directed to the family.
