Bernice M Freidel

Bernice Mary Freidel, 76, of Sioux City, Iowa passed in Sioux City, Iowa on Wednesday, November 1, 2023.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at Mater Dei Parish, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. A visitation will be held 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, Morningside Chapel. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Bernice was born January 24, 1947, in Ft. Atkinson, Wisconsin, to Roman Windl and Marie (Vogel) Windl. She graduated from high school in Jefferson, WI. She married Fred Freidel on April 20, 1968, in Jefferson at St. Lawrence Parish. The couple made their home in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin until they moved to Sioux City, Iowa in 1985. Bernice managed a women’s clothing store and later worked at Younkers in Sioux City.

Bernice was a member of Mater Dei Parish. She enjoyed playing cards, flowers and gardening, and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Fred Freidel; daughter, Luann Freidel; son, Brad Freidel (fiancé Lori Sommerness); brother, Herbert (Berdine) Windl; sister in law, Cindy Freidel.

She is preceded in death by her twin daughters, Lori and Lisa Freidel; parents; and sister Gertie (Lawrence) Grosenick.
