Bernice Thelma Loutsch (Knecht)

Bernice Thelma Loutsch, 85, of Sioux City died Tuesday, April 8, 2008, at her residence.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. Michael Erpelding officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Danbury, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., a rosary at 6 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Christy-Smith Larkin Chapel.

Bernice was born in Merrill, Iowa, on Nov. 1, 1922, the daughter of Earnest and Viola Knecht. At the age of two, her mother died and she was adopted by her grandparents, Jim and Dora Peterson. She was raised in the Merrill area and at the age of 18, she moved to Sioux City. She worked at the Lutheran Hospital and did housekeeping jobs in the area and later at Johnson Biscuit Co.

She married Johnnie Reimer on April 11, 1950. The couple moved to Danbury, Iowa. Johnnie died in September 1958. She moved back to Sioux City and worked for the Clean Towel Service.

On Jan 28, 1961, she married Nicolas Loutsch in Sioux City. She worked at the St. Joseph School lunch program while her son, Terry, attended the school. She then worked at Weller's Fishing Tackle Co. and at Palmer Candy Co.

Her grandchildren were the joy of her life. She would get an extra burst of energy every time she would see them and she enjoyed watching them play soccer, softball and basketball. She enjoyed reading, shopping and talking on the phone. She loved the holidays. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband, Nick of Sioux City; her son and his wife, Terry and Melonie of Sioux City; and four grandchildren, Meghan, Morgan, Joshua and Brady.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; and her brother, Lloyd Peterson.

Pallbearers will be Willie Jochum, Ritchie Treinen, Craig Fejfar, Mark Schroeder, Ray West and Donnie Loutsch.
