SIOUX CITY -- Bernice E. Poskevich, 92, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008, at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehab Center.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Larkin Northside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with Mr. Verlyn Bolks of the Church of Christ officiating. Visitation with the family will be noon until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
Bernice was born on March 18, 1916, in Sioux City, the daughter of Peter and Anna (Bolisak) Schlezes. She received her G.E.D.
She married Zick Poskevich on Nov. 29, 1933, in Sioux City. He died in 1975 in Sioux City. Bernice was a lifelong resident of Sioux City. She did cleaning in a downtown office for many years. She then went to work for Goodwill Industries.
She enjoyed doing crafts, reupholstery and also liked to do crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles. She loved her family and enjoyed reading her Bible.
Survivors include three sons and their wives, Jim and Sylvia Poskevich of Carson City, Nev., Robert and Virginia Poskevich of Waverly, Tenn., and Rick and Kathy Poskevich of Omaha, Neb.; four daughters, Phyllis Gran of Des Moines, Mary Kieler and her husband, Ed of Sioux City, Cheryl Brown and her husband, Ron of Omaha, and Linda Perrin of Albuquerque, N.M.; a brother, Frank Schlezes of Chicago, Ill; 26 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Kenneth and Ron Poskevich; a granddaughter, Laura Poskevich; and a brother, Tony Schlezes.
