Bernice Ellen Rider

Bernice E. Rider, 88, died Thursday, November 1, 2018, at The Heritage at Northern Hills assisted living facility in Sioux City, IA.
A gathering of family and friends to celebrate her life will be 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm Wednesday, November 7, 2018, at the Christy-Smith Funeral Homes Resource Center on Morningside Avenue.
Bernice Ellen Hinz, the daughter of Henry and Elsie (Gloe) Hinz was born November 28, 1929, in Dakota City, NE. She graduated from Central High School in Sioux City. Bernice was employed at various businesses, including Prudential Insurance, El Fredo’s Pizza, and the Riverside Drive-In.
On January 31, 1948, Bernice was united in marriage with Virgil A. Rider in Elk Point, SD. She was primarily a homemaker, but was working at the Post Office until her retirement. Virgil died December 6, 1987.
Bernice was a member of the Garden Club. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, crafts, and attending rummage sales.
Bernice is survived by her children, Dallene White of Westfield, IA, Dennis Rider of Sioux City, IA, Donna Rider of Westfield, IA, Donald (Gail) Rider of So. Sioux City, NE, David Rider of Westfield, IA; ten grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; two nieces; two nephews; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Virgil; a son, Dallas; and a sister, Roma Tokarczyk.
