Bernice Zellmer (Van't Hul)

SIOUX CITY -- Bernice "Bea" Zellmer, 83, of Sioux City died Friday, Aug. 26, 2011, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tess Panamarow officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.

Bea was born Jan. 28, 1928, in Rock Valley, Iowa, the daughter of John and Clara (Baker) Van't Hul. She graduated from high school and continued her education, receiving an associate degree in nursing and cosmetology. She moved from Sioux City to South Sioux City in 1985. She was the owner and operator of the South Ridge Motel.

Bea married Paul Schuett. He died in 1995. She then married Harold Zellmer in 1996. He died in 2008.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She was a lifetime member of the DAV. She also was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, Fraternal Order of the Eagles and the Chamber of Commerce. Bea loved to go dancing and was active with the Sioux City and South Sioux City senior centers. She enjoyed spending time with her family and all of her many friends.

Survivors include two daughters, Carla Schuett Berding and her husband, Richard of South Sioux City and Connie Schuett Lewis and her husband, Al of Sioux City; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Eileen Van Voorst of Sioux Center, Iowa; two brothers, Jerry Van't Hul of Sheldon, Iowa, and Clarence Van't Hul of Colorado; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Pamela Schuett Norris; a grandson, Timothy; two sisters, Fannie Westhuis and Lucy Van Voorst; and a brother, Bernard Van't Hul.
