Bertha I. Swanson-Kroll, 90, of Bettendorf, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, died Thursday, April 17, 2008, at Trinity Medical Center, Hospice Unit in Bettendorf following a lengthy illness.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel, with the Rev. Ryan Christenson, pastor of St. James United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Bertha was born Feb. 26, 1918, in Sergeant Bluff, the daughter of William and Frona (Crittenden) Dyer. She was raised in Bronson, Iowa, and graduated from Bronson High School. She moved to Sioux City in 1934.
She married Wilbur C. Swanson on Aug. 30, 1934, in Sioux City. He died on July 26, 1967, in Sioux City. She married Ben Kroll on May 3, 1969, in Sioux City. He died on March 27, 1983, in Sioux City. She was employed at Zenith Corporation for eight years and at Sunrise Manor for 15 years. She retired in 1983, and moved to Bettendorf in 2002.
She was a member of St. James United Methodist Church, the Scandinavian Society and the Senior Citizen Center.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, Kenneth and Charleen Swanson of Minneapolis, Minn., and Robert and Carolyn Swanson of Sioux City; a daughter and her husband, Shirley and James Moldt of Davenport, Iowa; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Clarence and Florence Dyer of Sioux City; two sisters, Melvina Kisting of Norwalk, Iowa, and Dorothy Abdalla and her husband, Charles of Scranton, Pa.; a stepson; two stepdaughters; and several stepgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; two brothers, Alonzo and Frank Dyer; and a sister, Mae Robinson.
