CLIMBING HILL, Iowa -- Betty Ahlquist, 80, of Climbing Hill died Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2011, at her home.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Climbing Hill. Burial will be in Westfork Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at McCulloch Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes in Moville, Iowa.
Betty was born Feb. 9, 1931, in Moville, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Irene (Clause) Boggs. She attended country school and graduated from Bronson (Iowa) High School.
Betty married Maynard Ahlquist on Nov. 24, 1950, in Bronson. They lived throughout Woodbury County. Betty worked for Zenith for more than 13 years until its closing. She helped with the farming operation and worked as a sexton with her husband for Westfork Township Cemetery for many years.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Climbing Hill and the Climbing Hill Garden Club. Betty loved going to her grandchildren's baseball games. She enjoyed being outside in her flower garden, mowing, fishing and snowmobiling in the Black Hills. Years ago she used to sing on the radio with the Timber-Rugens group.
Survivors include her husband, Maynard Ahlquist of Climbing Hill; daughter, Debra and Jim McGrath of Allen, Neb.; son, Rickie and Susan Ahlquist of Kingsley, Iowa; three grandchildren, Brent and Elizabeth Gunderson of Omaha, Bart and Sara Gunderson of Hubbard, Neb., Nicole Ahlquist of Kingsley; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Marlyn and Elgerd Arnett of Sioux City; a brother, Richard and Carol Sue Boggs of Santa Rosa, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Robert Boggs; and a sister, Carolyn Thompsen.
