Betty Jean Sunderland was born Dec. 28, 1927, in Sioux City, Iowa, the fifth of seven children to Edwin D. Sunderland and Nellie E. Cox. She attended Sioux City Schools.
She married Samuel L. Corrie on March 16, 1946, in South Sioux City, Neb. They worked the family farm for their entire married lives.
