Betty Louise McNaughton (Junck)

LAWTON, Iowa -- Betty J. McNaughton, 86, of Lawton passed away Thursday, Jan. 22, 2009, in Sioux City.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Bethel Lutheran Church in Lawton, with Pastor Bruce Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Banner Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a 7 p.m. prayer service, at the church. Betty was born Nov. 1, 1922, to Henry and Matilda (Bornholtz) Junck in Plymouth County, Iowa. She later moved with her family to Leeds. She attended country school in Plymouth County and later middle school at St. Paul's Lutheran. She graduated from Central High School in 1938.

On June 4, 1941, she married M. Richard McNaughton in South Sioux City. He passed away on Nov. 30, 2004. Betty moved to Lawton after marriage in 1941, and was a lifelong member of the community. Betty's passion in life was raising her eight children.

She was involved in numerous activities throughout the community revolving around the youth of the community. Her various activities included being a 4-H leader (Banner Planners) for 20 years, a Lawton Community Club Supporter, F.A.N. club member, 500 Card Club member, former member of the Dancing Grannies and Grandpa's, and Lawton 4th of July committee member for 23 years.

She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Lawton. Betty enjoyed cooking and canning, gardening, raising beautiful flowers and ballroom dancing. She was known for her witty humor. She and Richard wintered in Texas for 26 years. She also enjoyed watching youth and professional sports, especially her grandchildren's events and the K.C. Royals.

She was a loving mother of her eight children, Barbette McNaughton of Lawton, Merrill L. and Shirley McNaughton of Le Mars, Iowa, Dr. Clifford and Nancy McNaughton of Sioux Falls, S.D., Craig and Kristine McNaughton of Lawton, W. Brian McNaughton of Lawton, Richard K. McNaughton of Lawton, Curt and Kristine McNaughton of Lawton, and Jeanine and Stanley Chartier of Lawton; 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Mildred Scherner of Sioux City, Lucille Eberly of Sioux City, and Bonnie and Wayne Goodwin of Lawton.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Richard; her son, Merrill; her parents; four brothers, Frank, Clarence, Martin and Irvin Junck; and a sister, Irene Vanderloo.
