Betty L. Riggs (Jones)

Sioux City - Betty L. Riggs, 89, Sioux City, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at a Sioux City nursing home.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Michael Erpelding officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
Betty was born Dec. 22, 1923, in Lincoln, Neb., the daughter of Thomas and Verlie Belle (Grimm) Jones. She was raised in Hastings, Neb., and graduated from Hastings High School in 1942.
After high school she moved to Lincoln, and later back to Hastings. She worked at the state hospitals as a tech.
She married Edwin Riggs Aug. 24, 1950, in Marysville, Kan. The family moved to Sioux City in 1969. Edwin died July 20, 2004, in Sioux City.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and St. Boniface Catholic Church.
Betty enjoyed every kind of puzzle, crosswords and Scrabble. She enjoyed people and family. She enjoyed volunteering at the salad luncheon at St. Boniface, and at the Bargain Center.
Survivors include her son, Thomas (Susan) of Hastings; her daughter, Brenda (Ron) Cason of Sioux City; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Helen Nowka of York, Neb., Dorothy Lockenour of Cambridge, Neb., and Micky Bergeron of Vancouver, Wash.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her daughter, Tamara Ingalls; an infant son, Monte; her sister, Patsey Losee; and two brothers, Donald and Roy Jones.
