Betty Louise Ritchie (Weber)

March 16, 1931 — January 17, 2010

SIOUX CITY -- Betty L. Ritchie, 78, of Sioux City passed away peacefully to her Lord and Savior Jan. 17, 2010, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Southern Hills Baptist Church, with the Rev. Dave Miller officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Willow Township Cemetery, Holly Springs, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Betty L. Weber was born March 16, 1931, on her parents' farm near Holly Springs, to Oliver and Cora C. (Fredrickson) Weber. She grew up on the family farm and attended school in Holly Springs, graduating in 1948.

On Feb. 14, 1949, she married Darrell E. Ritchie. Before moving to Sioux City, they farmed near Hornick, Iowa, for four years. The couple was blessed with five children, Sandra, Diana, Marilyn, Douglas and David. She was a devoted homemaker, who loved to garden, can and cook. She stayed home with her children until they finished school. She then worked for the Woodbury County Extension office for 17 years.

Betty was a member of Southern Hills Baptist Church. She was active with her church and AWANA. She loved working with children. For 40 years, she served with Child Evangelism Fellowship working at their fairs every summer. She also served as a Girl Scout leader. For a number of years, she was the Tuesday homemaker at KTFC, sharing recipes, gardening and child rearing tips and spiritual inspiration.

For the last five years, the couple enjoyed working together at the Okoboji Bible Conference. They also helped at the Wycliffe Bible Translators Banquets.

Survivors include her husband, Darrell; a son-in-law, Marvin Roethler of Lawton, Iowa; a daughter, Diana and Clarence Winkler of Sioux City; a daughter, Marilyn and Doug Mosier of Denver, Colo.; a son, Douglas and Kathy Ritchie of Omaha; a son, David Ritchie of Lawton; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; her father, Oliver Weber of Sioux City; a brother, Ed and Marietta Weber of Carter Lake, Iowa; a sister, Marian Gallagher of Hornick, Iowa; a sister, Deloras and Leo Keck of Kingsley, Iowa; a brother, Roland and Cindy Weber of Springdale, Ark.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sandra Roethler; and her mother, Cora C. Weber.
